The Sanliurfa Archeology and Mosaic Museum (formerly the Sanliurfa Archeology Museum) was first opened in 1969 with the collection of existing artifacts in 1948.

The new museum is the former Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik replace the old Şanlıurfa Museum carried out by Turkey's largest museums with the date of May 24, 2015 inauguration of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It contains 73,800 archaeological and ethnographic artifacts.

The museum complex in Haleplibahçe was built on an area 10 times larger than the old building.

Inside the museum complex there are historical monuments from Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze and Iron ages. These works include the oldest known statue of the world, Balıklıgöl Statue, Göbeklitepe and Nevali Çori.
