Khtzkonk Monastery or Khidonskons (Armenian: Խծկոնք Xc'konk ') were built on three rock protrusions in the valley near the town of Digor, formerly known as Tekor, about 25 km southwest of Ani. It was founded by the Pakradunis in the 6th century, but remains empty after the 1915 Armenian massacre, and the historical Armenian church, which remained congregated until 2002, was blown up with explosives by the Turkish Armed Forces.

In total, the monastery had five churches, all domed and carefully made of cut stone. These are: St. Karapet, Virgin Mary (Saint Asdvadzdzin), St. Stefanos, St. Krikor and St. Sarkis Churches. Today only the Church of Saint Sarkis remains.

The churches do not have any inscriptions to shed light on the history and the chera of the establishment of the monastery or the construction of the churches. The monastery was abandoned after the 13th century Mongolian invasion.

In 1878, when the Kars region passed under Russian rule, Beşkilise was transferred to the Armenian Church. The buildings were restored and the monastery was reopened for worship. Accommodation was arranged for monks and pilgrims. They were built on the edge of the largest ledge, next to the river in the valley below, and to the northwest of the Church of St. Sarkis.

Saint Sarkis suffered severe damage in 1989 earthquake. The concrete core of the building has been shattered, and the church is now completely collapsing. Most of the photographs on these pages were taken before 1989.
