Information About İzmit Clock Tower
Izmit Clock Tower is a clock tower located in Kocaeli Kemalpasa neighborhood in Kocaeli.
34. Sultan of the Ottoman Sultan II. It was built by Izmit Municipality under the supervision of Izmit governor due to 25th anniversary of Abdülhamit's ascent to the throne. The foundation of the tower was laid on August 19, 1900 and was completed in 1901, the 26th year of the Sultan Abdulhamid.
Project Architect Vedat Bey; the application was made by others with changes. Some sources give the architect of the tower as Mihran Azaryan, an Ottoman Armenian from Izmit.
inscriptions
There are inscriptions on the pediment of the fountains on the three sides of the clock tower and above the gate. In these inscriptions 1318 (M. 1900/1901) the municipality has built this tower and is writing to the fountain Seyit Kamari.
In the circle-shaped cartridge on the middle floor, II. Abdülhamit has a monogram.
A Turkish inscription near the entrance of the clock tower also states that it was repaired by SEKA in the 1970s.
Architectural features
The clock tower rises on a square base with two columns at the corners and circular arched fountains on the sides. The dispensers are in the form of a flat round niche and surrounded by moldings. In addition, these fountains have a profiled boat.
The body width was divided into four floors with three wipings, each floor tried different architectural applications and different decorations were used. The first floor is the section where the fountains are located. In the bow of the fountain mirror there are moon stars and under the moon stars there is a wreath.
On the second floor, a balcony was built between the base and the body. The balcony made of iron railings reflects the stylistic features of the era.
On the 3rd floor of the tower, there are eyebrow arched windows on each facade surface. At the bottom of the windows, in the marble medallions II. Abdulmamid has a monogram.
On the fourth floor, one clock dial is placed in four directions. There are three window belts on top of the clocks.
The four floors were covered with a thin pointed cone. The eaves system is quite flood.
Each corner of the tower has a long, thin window.
