          Today's Hagia Sophia is the third building in the same place and name. The first Hagia Sophia was built by Constantius (337-361), the son of Great Constantinus in 360. A.D. In 404, the building, which was supposed to be a basilica with a wooden roof, suffered a fire breakdown.

          The name of Hagia Sophia means "holy wisdom" or "divine wisdom." Christianity is regarded as one of the three qualities of God in the Orthodoxy sect of religion. The 6th century scholars were the physicist Miletus Isidoros and the Trallesian mathematician Anthemius.

          Emperor Justinianos commanded his own provinces to be confiscated for use in the Hagia Sophia for the finest architectural pieces to make Hagia Sophia more splendid. Some columns, doors and stones were brought from ancient cities such as Aspendos, Ephesos, Baalbek, and Tarsus in Anatolia and Syria, which are older than themselves, and the white marbles are brought from Marmara Island, the green ones are from Eğriboz Island, the pink marbles are from Afyon yellow marbles were brought from North Africa and used in Hagia Sophia. Surfaces outside the marble covered walls of Ayasofya are adorned with mosaics. Materials made of gold, silver, glass, terracotta and colored stones were used in making the mosaics

When the Eastern Roman Empire recaptured the city in 1261, Hagia Sophia was re-circulated. By the conquest of Istanbul by Fatih Sultan Mehmed in 1453, After the conquest, the structure was strengthened and best preserved and continued its existence as a mosque together with the Ottoman Period additions. The structure which suffered from various earthquakes, was built in order to support the construction by both Eastern Roman and Ottoman periods. The minarets built by Mimar Sinan also functioned as supporting pillars at the same time. In the Ottoman period, Hagia Sophia added mihraks, minbar, muezzin cabinets, preaching sermons and maksures. It was opened in 1935 as a museum visitor.

          Hagia Sophia, the world's oldest cathedral, was the largest cathedral in the world until 1520 (until the Seville Cathedral in Spain was built.) In addition, Hagia Sophia is the fastest complete cathedral. It is the place that worshiped for the longest time with being a place of worship for 15 years. The dome is the 4th largest cathedral in comparison with the old cathedrals.

          Talismanic Gates: According to the legend, Hagia Sophia has a total of 361 gates but 101 of these gates are large and amulet. Because every time these doors are counted, an extra door appears.
