Habib-i Neccar Mosque was built in the 7th century AD on a pagan temple belonging to the historical mosque in Antakya. It is the oldest mosque in the borders of the Republic of Turkey. The present mosque was renovated during the Ottoman period and is surrounded by madrasa rooms. There is a fountain in the 19th century.

The mosque is entered through a round arched door with a large pointed deaf arch door and a central inscription. Adjacent to the last community, the rectangular pedestal polygonal body and wooden balustrade, has a minaret with shoes. To the right of the minaret is Habib Neccar, to the left are the tombs of Yahya (Barnabas) and Yunus (Pavlos).

When the city of Antioch was conquered by Abu Ubeyde bin Cerrah, the commander of the Islamic State, Caliph Omar, in 636, a mosque was built as the symbol of the conquest, Habib-i Neccar and the tomb of Jesus' two apostles. When the Mamluk Sultan Melik Zahir Baybars conquered the city, the city was captured by the Crusaders in 1098 and became the Antakya Principality in 1099 and rebuilt the mosque. There is an inscription on the walls of the mosque, which is named after Baybars. The mosque and its minaret, damaged by earthquakes, have been renovated many times.

Habib-i Neccar

Quran in the Qur'an 13-32. In the following verses, the story of a city's people who are sent ambassadors (the word al-Ashad al-Karye is used) is told. According to Surime, the city's people refused to send him a second envoy to refuse the two messengers sent to him; a man who accused the envoys of bringing bad luck, but was running away from the far side of the city, told his people to obey the apostles.

It is not stated which town was the last town, but the writers of the commentary based on the narrations from the Companions wrote that this town was Antioch and the person was Habib-i Neccar. In the continuation of the incident, the man who came from the edge of the city and said bundan you do not comply with these ambassadors gelip is told that he was martyred for this reason. Therefore, it is expressed that Allah has given a divine punishment to this community.

The story of Habib-i Neccar in the Yasin period is paralleled by the fact that the apostles shaped Christianity in Antakya. The 12 apostles, who came together in Jerusalem forty days after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, decided to organize the message of Jesus and decided to spread the message of Jesus, the largest city in the region and the city of Antioch, which had an autonomous administrative structure under the Roman Empire. he had found. In the gospels and history books, the apostle Yahya (Barnabas) and Yunus (Pavlos), who shaped Christianity in Antioch, first came from Antioch from Jerusalem and then the apostle Şem'un-u Sefa (Petrus) to support them. is also written here. Also historian John Malalas, M.S. In 37, when the three apostles told the message of Jesus in Antioch, he wrote that there was an earthquake here. The earthquake is similar to the one described in the Yasin period, when Allah gave a divine punishment to the people of the city.
