history

Hakkari, which was a part of Hurrians and Urartu Kingdoms, respectively, passed to Arab rule after the Persian Empire. Later the city, which was under the control of the Seljuks, joined the Ottoman Empire in 1536.

Thanks to its geographical location, Hakkari, which has been home to many nations, did not adopt the Catholic sect in 1662. The Assyrians met the Diyarbakir metropolis. They reorganized under the leadership of Mar Shimun Denha and adopted the village of Kodşanis / Koçanis (presently Konak) in Hakkari as the center of patriarchy. The nasturi patriarchs lived in this village until 1918. The Nestorians, who made up about half of the population of Hakkâri until the middle of the nineteenth century, suffered significant losses in two attacks organized by the Emir of Cizre Bedirhan Bey and the Emir of Hakkâri Nurullah Bey in 1843 and 1846. Hakkâri Nestorians, who clashed with the tribes during the period of 1915-18, first defected to Urmia in Iran and then to Iraq, which came under British rule, and attempted to return collectively in 1924. They were sprayed.
