Intellectual; Aphrodisias in ancient times, Miletus, Didyma, Nysa, Priene, Magnesia. Today's Aydın, together with the city of Tralleis, was developed during the Hittites in 2500 BC, and in the 8th century Lydia had its most brilliant era. Together with the Seljuks, it is equipped with the cultural existence and works of Turkish civilization. In the time of Aydınoğulları, the name of the city was Aydın Güzelhisarı and later it was called Aydın. In 1811, the city became the center of the province covering İzmir, Saruhan (Manisa), Menteşe (Muğla), Antalya and Isparta. In 1923, after the War of Independence, Aydın was a detached province.
