           The Bosphorus Bridge, in its official name, refers to being the first bridge built on the 15th of July, the Martyrs Bridge or the Bosphorus. The First Bridge is one of the three suspension bridges located on the Istanbul Bosphorus that connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. As the First Bridge It is called.

 

The bridge, which was commissioned on February 20, 1970, was opened on 30 October 1973 by a government ceremony by President Fahri Korutürk in honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.


When it was completed, it became the fourth longest suspension bridge in the world.


On July 26, 2016, the official name of the bridge was changed to the 15th of July Martyrs Bridge in memory of citizens who lost their lives on the bridge during the 2016 Turkish military coup attempt.
