Directions,Location,Map

Amisos Hill or Baruthane Hill, formerly known as the 3rd century BC, was discovered on 28 November 1995. The burial chambers in the tumuli were discovered and robbed by treasure hunters before they were taken under protection. Therefore, some parts of the grave structures are damaged.

The excavations carried out in 2004-2005 revealed that the tumulus belongs to the Hellenistic period and it was found to be a grave structure thought to belong to one of the top ruling families of the Pontus Kingdom. A number of burials called Amisos Treasure were found during the rescue excavations carried out in the grave chambers and these finds are exhibited in Samsun Archeology and Ethnography Museum today.

After the work completed in 2008, the tumuli rearranged to serve tourism were called Amisos Hill and the burial chambers were opened to visitors.

It was formed by carving the conglomerate layer as in the northern tumulus and extends in the east-west direction. The walls of the room under the tumulus, which is 6 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 3 meters high, are covered with cream colored plaster with a thickness of 3 meters.

Horizontal lines were drawn to the walls of the anterior chamber in the tumulus and painted in laciver. On the upper part of this false stone wall, two horizontal strips were engraved with red paint. There are niches painted with yellow paint on the upper side of the door opening to the back room and on the right and left side.

There is a kline in front of the western wall in the back room of the tumulus. The front of the Kline is decorated with red and black colors. The walls of the room are decorated with red paint and horizontal stripes.
