Historical Sinop Closed Prison is a prison which was also known as "Alkatrazı of Anatolia" for a period and was closed down in 1999 and turned into a museum. The structure, which is based on the old ones, has been the subject of poems and songs.

The castle, which houses the prison on three sides of the sea and located within the walls of the historic castle, was built by the Gaskalians, who ruled the region about 4000 years ago. The Grecian, Pontus, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottomans preserved and fortified the castle during their times. The oldest documents regarding the use of the castle as a prison date back to 1568. Evliya Çelebi mentioned this dungeon in his travel book;

It's a big and scary castle. 300 iron gates, giant guards, arms tied to bars and each with 10 mustaches hanging from men's mustaches. Tower The guards walk around like a dragon.

The official castle was transformed into a dungeon in 1887. At that time, Veysel Pasha, the Sinop Mutasarrıf, added a bath with new buildings. In 1939 another building was built to be used as a children's prison.

Crimean Khan State Giray, Sabahattin Ali, Refik Halit Karay, Mustafa Suphi, Ahmet Bedouin Qur'an, Ruhi Su, Burhan Felek, Zekeriya Sertel are some of the names who stayed in this prison. The poems describing the prison also came out of the pen of Sabahattin Ali and "Aldırma Gönül" became popular.
