The Devil's Fortress (Georgian: ქაჯის lit; translit .: “kacis tsih'e eski) is an old fortress located in Yıldırımtepe village of Çıldır district of Ardahan province. After the capture of the region by the Ottomans, the castle is thought to have been translated from Georgian.

There is a view that “Kacta Tsihe en, which is mentioned in the epic Tiger Skin Man, written by the famous Georgian poet Sota Rustaveli in the 12th century, is not the Alamut Castle but the Devil Castle.
Location
Devil's Castle is located on a rocky hill on the right bank of a creek 1.3 km north of the center of the village of Yildirimtepe, formerly known as Rabat. It is possible to reach this hill with a cliff on three sides only in one direction. The castle is thought to be called the Devil's Castle because of its difficult access and seizure. However, the invulnerability of the castle due to the inability to capture the castle is linked to evil spirits, the devil, and there is a legend among the people.

The castle, which is 1910 meters above sea level, has survived to a great extent. The castle has an unsymmetrical plan and its dimensions are 161 × 93 meters and the castle has three towers. One of them has survived to the present day.

It is reached by a paved vehicle up to the viewing hill near the Devil's Castle, which is now illuminated at night, and from there, a pathway.
history
There are some arguments that the Castle of Satan was built during the Urartians. However, these views are not based on any historical source. According to the information provided by the later sources, the castle should be an early medieval castle. However, due to its location, it is very likely that such a place would have been a fortress in earlier times. However, the resources to prove this are not yet available.

According to the chronicle of Meshuri Matiane, which tells the history of the Georgian principality Samtshe-Saatabago and the neighboring states between 1561-1587, the ruler of Satan Castle Samtshe-Saatabago II. Under Manuçar's rule, Manuçar signed an agreement with Lala Mustafa Pasha and gave the Ottomans six fortresses, including the Devil's Fortress. The Devil's Castle was used during the reign of the Ottomans from the 16th century onwards, as well as during the periods of the Kingdom of Georgia and Samtshe-Saatabago. It is known that there is a commercial area near the castle. This place, known as Rabat, was later transformed into an ordinary settlement.

Castle structures
There is a single nave church built in the 14th century in Devil's Castle. At the bottom of the castle, which is dedicated to St. Stefan, only four walls remain. In addition, the ruins of the cistern and staircase steps down to the creek have survived.
