         Rumeli Hisarı, or Boğazkesen, was built by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror in the narrowest part of the Bosporus in front of the Anatolian Fortress on the Anatolian side in order to prevent attacks from the northern part of the Bosporus before conquest during the preparations for the conquest of Istanbul.
