Karagöl-Sahara is one of the 40 National Park areas in Turkey and Turkey's Artvin Şavşat is located in the township consists of two separate areas: These are Karagöl and Sahara plateau.

Karagol, 45 km from the center of Savsat district. is located in the north. The Sahara plateau is 17 km. Away. Karagöl and its surrounding areas are generally paleogene and neogene. The rocks are generally of sedimentary origin. Karagöl and its environs were split with valleys. These splits cause the landslide and mass movements to be active in the region. Karagöl is a landslide lake formed by the water accumulated in the bowl behind the rotationally sliding mass. The area around the lake is covered with dense forests of spruce and pine. Surrounded by forests, Karagöl has rare landscape beauties. In addition, there are areas of Bagat locality in the northeast of the lake and around it, which have the characteristics of grass skiing.

The Sahara plateau has a geological structure consisting mainly of cover basalts of the region. Tertiary land emerges where the cover basalts are stripped. Slope values ​​are quite high in the region which is fragmented by deep valleys. The Sahara is one of the limited plains on this slope at 1700-1800 m. It is made up of forest cover, spruce and firs. In the region, anthropogenic steppe areas occupy large areas. There are plant species belonging to alpine zone in and around Kocabey Plateau.

The plains which are gradually located at 1700-1800 meters on the edge of Laşet Creek are also the area where the "Sahara Beetroot Festival" is held. Local people living outside the district also participate in these festivals and contribute to the region in terms of domestic tourism. In order to preserve the recreational potential and natural beauty of the site, 3766 hectares were included in the National Park in 1994. There is also a facility in the Karagöl part of the National Park, which serves as a rural casino and provides accommodation with 12 beds.
