Directions,Location,Map

Karaca Cave is located in Cebeli village of Torul district of Gumushane. You can see many natural wonders such as dripstone shapes, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, organ patterned walls, cave flowers, cave pearls and travertine steps. In addition, the air of Karaca Cave is good for many respiratory diseases, especially asthma. Karaca Cave is 1550 m high from the sea and 17 km from the city center.

It was discovered in 1983 by Geological Engineer Şükrü Eroz, a resident of Karaca Cave and opened to tourism in 1996. Karaca Cave is particularly good for respiratory diseases (asthma, etc.).

Statigraphic lithological properties
Üskretase formations have a wide spread in the area. They are generally composed of andesitic and basaltic lavas, lavas and agglomerates. The total thickness of this series is 1000 m and there are intercalations of limestones, marls and grains ranging in thickness from 100 m to 200 m. Karaca Cave has also developed within this series of massive limestones surrounded by fractured volcanics.

Formation
Karaca Cave is rich in dripstone formations. Inside the cave stalactites, stalagmites, columns, organ-patterned walls, flag shapes and curtain dripstones, cave flowers, cave pearls, elephant ears, travertine pools, tarverten steps, as well as cave roses are formed from small stalagmites coming out of pools. The dripstone pools in the cave have reached big dimensions. Especially in the last sections of the cave, the depth of these pools is 1 m. The presence of travertines of various colors from white to navy in the cave shows that molten minerals such as iron and magnesium in the water forming the travertines are very dense.

The shape of the cave
The cave developed horizontally and consists of four separate ellipse-like halls. Two of these halls were divided into two by wall dripstones formed by water leaking from crack systems and the number of halls increased to six. The entrance of the cave starts at a height of human height and extends in the form of a funnel. When we consider the Karaca Cave as a whole, we see that we are 105 m long from the entry point to the extreme point. the average ceiling height is 18 m. The total internal area of the cave is 1500 m2.

Water presence and air
There are no rivers in Karaca Cave. However, the water leaking from the cracks in the ceiling allowed the formation of various dripstone forms to continue today. There are also travertine pools and several ponds inside the cave. The lakes three and four at the entrance of these ponds have rich water.
