Edirne Great Synagogue, located in Edirne, Turkey's largest and Europe's third largest synagogue worship. The synagogue, whose history dates back to the Seferad community that escaped from the oppressions in Europe in 1492 and took refuge in the Ottoman Empire, was rebuilt with the edict of Sultan Abdulhamid II in 1905 and reopened on the eve of the Passover. French architect France Depré designed the building inspired by the synagogue Leopoldstädter Tempel in Vienna.

Restoration

The synagogue, which was open to worship until 1983, was not used because the Jews left Edirne and went into destruction. The ownership of the synagogue was transferred to the General Directorate of Foundations in 1995. The synagogue was restored in 2010 with the decision of the General Directorate of Foundations and reopened on 26 March 2015 with the participation of state representatives and members of the Jewish community. At the opening and the first wedding in the synagogue following the opening, the prayer of "Anoten" was made in accordance with Sephardic Jewish traditions.
