The name Nakida was sometimes used as Nekide, and in the 14th century the same word was written with Arabic letters in Nîkde and later as nîkde. After the Republic, this name was converted to Niğde.

First periods

Information about the ancient history of Niğde can be obtained from the excavations of the Garden Pavilion Mound, Altunhisar Pinarbasi Mound, Çamardı Cellaler Mound, Güllüdağ Örenye and Divarlı Mound. Based on this information, it is possible to start Niğde History from 7000-5500 BC.

The Niğde region was known as the Tabal Territory because of its presence in the Tabal Confederation during the Hittites. The late Hittite period center of Tabal was today's Kemerhisar in Tuvanuva (Tyana).

Ottoman Empire

In the 19th century, the banner of Niğde had an eventual political life and was not harmed by the local uprisings in Central Anatolia, which were mostly influential in the north.

Damat İbrahim Pasha from Nevşehir, who was the grand vizier to the Ottoman state after leaving the village of Muşkara in Ürgüp, gave the rights to the guards of the Niğde castles to Nevşehir. Thus, the weight in the region shifted towards Ürgüp and Nevşehir.

The Niğde region was located in the province of Karaman Nevşehir Livası during the classical period of the Ottoman Empire. Niğde became the starboard center in 1849. In 1860, Nigde had 6 accidents: Center, Kirsehir, Urgup, Nevsehir, Aksaray and Yahyali. In 1867, the province of Nigde in the names of the province, a province under the Konya province appears to be a banner. In addition to Niğde, Konya Province had 5 provinces in total, namely, Konya City Center İçel, Hamidabad (Isparta) and Tekke (Antalya). The 5 districts of Niğde district were composed of Niğde Central accident, Nevşehir, Kırşehir, Ürgüp (which was connected to Yahyalı Ürgüp, Nahiye) and Aksaray.

It is seen in the 1877 records that the Sanjak of Niğde maintained its status in 1867. Although there was no change in the number of accidents in the Niğde sanjak during this period, it was seen that Bor district was connected to the sanjak instead of Kırşehir.

In 1892 and 1903, the Sanjak of Niğde remained under the Konya province. However, the total number of the starboard accidents increased from 5 to 8. These accidents are as follows: 1- Niğde Central Accident, 2- Boron, 3- Nevşehir, 4- Ürgüp, 5- Aksaray, 6- Maden (Çamardı), 7- Şücaeddin (Ulukışla) and 8- Arapsun (Gülşehir).

After the Second Constitutional Monarchy, Niğde became an independent starboard. During this period, the accidents of the independent sanjak remained the same except for Maden.

Period of National Struggle
