Kırşehir history begins to be remembered with Hittites period. However, the name of the province at that time is not yet known. It is understood that the province was known as Aquae Saravenas (Akova - Saravena) (2nd century BC). Formerly known as Makissos (Macissus), the city was rebuilt in the reign of Emperor Justinian I (527-568) and began to be called Justinianopolis.

Rising in the middle of a vast countryside, this city was called by the Turks as "the city of the countryside". The city of the country became "Kirsehir" in time. Even today, the people who live in some villages call this place the city of Kir. The name Kırşehir is in Turkish.

The city is located to the north of the triangle called Cappadocia together with Kayseri and Nevşehir. Kirsehir is the center of Cappadocia, most of which are lost or unknown. The Cappadocia Region is located in the east of the Tuz Gölü, the center of Kayseri, and the Eastern Taurus Mountains in the south; and extends to Malatya by taking a significant part of Kırşehir and Sivas to the north. Cappadocia, which is called "Katpatukya" in Persian language, means "Land of Beautiful Horses". This place has embraced many states for thousands of years. It is unclear who came here and how long ago.

Kırşehir has the characteristics of a culture and art center in the middle of the Anatolian steppe. Even today, the philosophy of Ahilik, which has aroused admiration, was born and spread and has a dazzling cultural existence. In the 13th century, Aşık Pasha, who defended Turkish with great faith and wrote Turkish poems, joined the immortal names of Turkish literature; astronomy, Islamic law, philosopher-Sufi scholar Caca Bey and more, a province that has trained.
