Giresun is a province in the east of the Black Sea region, known for its hazelnuts. Cherry is accepted to spread all over the world from here. Chepni constitute the majority of the local people.

history
Giresun was established as a colony of Miletus. The Greek name is "Kerasus". It is said that the name may be "Cherry land" because of the wild cherry trees.

Giresun was conquered in 1397 by the Turcoman bey Emir Son Suleiman Bey and turned into a Turkish homeland. Vilayet-i Çepni is located in Gümüşhane / Koyulhisar, Gürgentepe in the south; east of Besikduzu Abdal Musa (Sis) mountain skirts, the Kurdish line is the region of the interior. It is stated that the Chepni, who are of Turkmen tribes, may have been sent here from Horasan to ensure the security of the silver mines and harbors in the vicinity of Gümüşhane, Kurtün and the historical Silk Road.

Giresun Çepnileri makam were the followers of Güvenç Abdal on the Güvendi plateau. The center of Giresun has not seen enemy occupation since 1397.

Origin of name
There are three rumors about the origin of the name Giresun. The first is narrated; It comes from the word "Kerasus." According to the first rumor, this name, "Kerasus" abundantly grown in cherry comes from. According to the second narration; Giresun is built on a peninsula extending towards the sea. The shape of this peninsula is similar to the horn. For this reason, the Greek horn "Keras" is derived from. The third rumor is that it was given to the famous Roman General Kerasus who suppressed the Spartacus rebellion.
