History
Information about today's settlement is limited. 4 km southwest of the city lies the ancient city of Agrilion, where the settlement is thought to have been extended to 3000 BC. There was a castle known as Belekoma in the Byzantine period on the rocky ledge between Hamsu and Debağhane streams of today's settlement. In the 13th century, Bilecik, which was in the extreme region of the Byzantine struggle against the Seljuks, was ruled semi-independent from the center under the rule of Tekfur. Bilecik joined the Ottoman Empire in 1299 with a sudden raid. After the conquest of Bilecik, Osman Gazi had a mosque built here, and his young son Ali and his wife, Sheikh Edebali, who was also the father of his wife, lived there. Although the city has developed around the castle, there has not been sufficient growth due to its geographical structure. In the 16th century, about a tenth of the settlement, which had a small population of around 700, was Christian. It was recorded as a town belonging to Bilecik Ertuğrul Gazi foundations in Avârız records in 1649. During this period, the settlement consisted of 10 neighborhoods, nine Muslims and one Christian. The settlement, which could not be made in agriculture due to its geographical location, developed in this period with iron mining and silk weaving. The settlement, which was seen as an accident due to the Sultanönü banner in the Ottoman administration for a long time, became a banner of Hüdavendigâr province after Tanzimat. II. During the reign of Abdulhamid, the central accident of the banner of Ertugrul Bilecik became the province during the first years of the Republic. In 1924 the name of the province was changed to Bilecik.

Prehistoric
The first settlement in Bilecik dates back to 3000 BC. It is known that Tin was removed for the construction of Bronze in Bilecik before Christ.

The first known names are Agrilion and Belekoma. Later Bilecik entered the Byzantine Empire. It was known as Belekoma during the Eastern Roman period. Bilecik was then Kale-sur.
