Information About Atatürk Monument



          The monument is located on the Cumhuriyet Square. It was built with the joint decision of the Governorship and the Municipality. This monument sculpture is the result of wanting to visually express the gratitude and gratitude to the people of İzmir and the homeland, the great savior, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

 

          According to the records of the Governor's Office, the municipality decided to open the competition in the first stage. However, the monument was ordered to the Italian sculptor Canonica, thinking that the competition would extend the time of the city's sculpture.

 

          A commission was formed to deal with the monument's construction. In July 1929, the Commission set out the characteristics of the monument to be held at the meeting. According to this, the face of the statue will be turned to your head, around which the works of the War of Independence and revival will be found. "

 

         The construction of the statue was carried out in Rome. During the construction, in 1931, a delegation examined whether the sculpture was suitable for our national self. This review was conducted on June 20th and 21st. At the end of the review, the commission considered some changes to be made in some parts of the reliefs. Otherwise, it is generally liked.

 

          The opening ceremony of the memorial was held on Wednesday, July 27, 1932 at 18.00. Ismet Pasha opened a statue after speaking. Then Mayor Behçet Uz made a speech.
