The first museum in Kahramanmaraş was established in 1947 in a building called Taş Medrese from Dulkadiroğlu Principality in Atatürk Square. In 1961, it was moved to the building in Kahramanmaraş Castle, which is located in the center of Kahramanmaraş. In 1975 it moved to its current modern building on Azerbaijan Boulevard. In the current museum building, there are archeology, ethnography, stone works halls and portico and garden exhibitions.

There are 2 mammoth skeletons, monumental stone Hittite Lion Statue, stone steles belonging to the Hittites, bromine figurines, Byzantine Mosaics and glittering bindals and clothes.
